Prayagraj: On the occasion of World Environment Day, a seminar and poetry conference on the topic “Climate change deepening crisis on animal life” was organized in the auditorium of Literary Club (Allahabad Sahitya Adda) and Horticultural Experiment and Training Centre, Khusrobag, Prayagraj. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Joint Director Gardens Dr. Virendra Singh ji started the program by planting a tree.
Khusrobag in-charge Vijay Kishore Singh presided over the program, and the chief guest was nature lover and master poet Anwar Abbas Naqvi. Vivek Srivastava and Prema Rai were present as special guests. The program was superbly conducted by poet Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chitranshi. The program began with the lighting of lamps and the laying of wreaths on a portrait of Goddess Saraswati by the President, Chief Guest, and Special Guests. Dr. Rahul Shukla “Sahil” welcomed the guests, and Saqib Badal concluded the program with a vote of thanks.
In his presidential address, Vijay Kishore Singh said that climate change is causing droughts and excessive rainfall. To address these problems, tree conservation and increased tree planting are the urgent need of the hour. He said that to maintain environmental balance, every citizen should pledge to plant trees and care for them.
Chief Guest Anwar Abbas Naqvi said that the protection of land, water, and air is essential for the protection of human life. Collective efforts are essential to reduce pollution and maintain the earth’s fertility. He called sensitivity to nature a key need of the present times.
Dr. Rahul Shukla “Sahil” stated in his speech that the importance of nature persists from birth to death. Most creative expressions of literature have evolved around nature. Many hymns of Vedic literature focus on the conservation and worship of nature.
Special guest Vivek Srivastava, highlighting the philosophical aspect of the environment, said that greenery is a basic necessity for human life. Developing small groves and green spaces is essential to maintain oxygen and environmental balance amid the growing concrete jungle. In the second session of the poetic conference and poetry symposium, literary figures recited their works on nature conservation, water conservation, and environmental awareness. Dr. Rahul Shukla “Sahil” said in his couplet: “May the entire earth become beautiful, may there be plants all around. Let us protect together, the morning will be happy.”
Renowned poet Farmood Allahabadi expressed his concern over the indiscriminate cutting of trees and said – “Whether there is a flood or a drought, the axe is there, dan dan dan dan.” Sanjay Saxena presented his composition based on family values and human sensitivity. Rachna Saxena expressed hope, struggle, and the positive energy of nature in her poem. Chief guest Anwar Abbas Naqvi gave voice to the sweet feelings of nature through his ghazal— “When the flowers of words call, come, Come when the drops of nectar shower.”
Poetess Preeta Bajpai, while expressing her devotion towards water conservation and Mother Ganga, said – “Where will they go for each drop, they will be scared of intense thirst, they will get fed up. Have you ever thought that Ganga is our mother, if we do not serve our mother we will go to hell.”
Amar Ujala journalist and renowned litterateur Ishwar Sharan Shukla said that — The scorching sun burns the soles, The dust would fly and make the senses cry. Prema Roy said that You have tortured me a lot, The reward of which he suffered, Preserve the environment. The program’s director and poet Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chitranshi presented a touching couplet on environmental destruction. “Falsa cried and said, listen Ammijan. Manav took Khinni to the crematorium.”
The literary figures, environmentalists, and citizens present at the event unanimously pledged to protect the environment, conserve water, and plant more trees. Speakers emphasized that World Environment Day is not merely a formal event, but an opportunity to remember and put into practice our responsibilities towards nature. If concrete efforts are not made today to protect the environment, future generations may face serious challenges. In the end, all the people present resolved to make the “One Plant – One Resolution” campaign a success and to continuously create public awareness for environmental protection.
