Prayagraj: On the eve of the 144th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Rajarshi Purushottam Das Tandon, a prestigious program was organized by Rajarshi Tandon Women’s College, Prayagraj, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit (055). The program was conducted under the guidance of the college’s respected Principal, Professor Ajay Prakash Khare.
In his inspiring address, Principal Professor Ajay Prakash Khare said that Mahatma Gandhi, impressed by Purushottam Das Tandon’s unparalleled patriotism, sacrifice, simplicity, and incomparable contribution to the Hindi language and Indian culture, bestowed upon him the title of “Rajarshi.” He said that Rajarshi Purushottam Das Tandon was not only a great freedom fighter but also a powerful symbol of Indian culture, the Hindi language, and national consciousness. “Our true tribute to him would be to pass on his ideals to the new generation.” He urged the students to embrace his ideals and play an active role in nation-building.
The programme started with the auspicious Ganesh Vandana presented by Swati, a third year BA student. After this, the soulful Guru Vandana was presented by the students Vaishnavi, Soumya, Lakshmi, Anu, Meenakshi and Priya Rajkumar. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Rajarshi Purushottam Das Tandon ji, the student Vaishali presented a powerful Hindi speech on his personality and works. On the other hand, students Priya Rajkumar and Tanu Singh enthralled all the guests and students present by reciting an impressive Hindi poem based on the life of Rajarshi ji, his love for the nation, his dedication towards the Hindi language and Indian culture. The people present appreciated the presentations of the students wholeheartedly.
On this occasion, a tree-planting program was organized on the college campus. The Principal, teachers, and volunteers planted saplings to convey the message of environmental protection and pledged to plant and protect as many trees as possible. He further stated that the National Service Scheme is a powerful medium for developing a sense of service, discipline, social responsibility, environmental protection, and dedication to the nation among students.
The dignified, impressive and extremely well-organized stage management of the program was done by Dr. Varsha Agarwal, Assistant Professor of Hindi Department, who, with her energetic, effective and coordinated management, successfully completed the entire function with dignity and discipline. The program was graced by the presence of senior teachers Prof. Neelima Singh, Prof. Namita Yadav, Dr. Priyanka Sharma (Programme Officer, National Service Scheme), Dr. Amitendra Pratap Singh, Dr. Vivek Singh, Dr. Shaminaz Bano, Dr. Varsha Agarwal, Dr. Anil Kumar Yadav, Dr. Abhishek Tiwari, Dr. Yashasvi Pandey, Dr. Naveen Pathak, Dr. Manoj Kumar, college teachers, research scholars, non-teaching staff and all the volunteers of National Service Scheme.
At the end of the program, the volunteers who excelled in the slogan writing, poster making, and story writing competitions organized under the Drug De-addiction Public Awareness Campaign, run by the National Service Scheme from June 17, 2026, to June 26, 2026, were honored by the respected Principal, Prof. Ajay Prakash Khare, by presenting them with certificates. On this occasion, the students’ enthusiasm, creativity, and social concerns were highly praised. Finally, Prof. Namita Yadav presented a vote of thanks. The ceremony then concluded successfully in a dignified atmosphere with the collective singing of the National Anthem.
