Prayagraj: A widow’s complaint regarding a land dispute in Deoria village, under the Sarai Inayat police station area, reached senior police officials and prompted action. The victim, Shiv Devi, wife of the late Ravindra Kumar, accused her brother-in-law, Vijay Kumar, and his wife, Kiran Sharma, of assault, abuse, threats to kill, and attempts to seize her land.
According to the victim, after her husband’s death, she has been raising her two children through manual labor. It is alleged that, taking advantage of this situation, her opponents were constantly harassing her and pressuring her to leave the land. According to the complaint, on June 21, 2026, at around 8 a.m., while returning home from the fields, the accused allegedly assaulted her, abused her, and threatened to kill her. Hearing the commotion, villagers arrived at the scene and intervened. The victim states that she submitted applications to the Sarai Inayat police station on June 21 and July 26, 2026, seeking registration of a case and protection.
Subsequently, she underwent a medical examination on July 30, 2026, but she appealed to higher authorities due to the delay in action. Information about the case was brought to the notice of Prayagraj Police Commissioner Piyush Mordia. After being informed about the victim’s complaint, the earlier application and the medical examination, the Police Commissioner took the matter seriously and took immediate cognizance and directed the concerned police station in-charge to take necessary action as per the rules. Piyush Mordia is currently the Police Commissioner of Prayagraj.
Following the Police Commissioner’s instructions, the police station registered an FIR in the case and started investigation. After the action was taken, the victim has demanded a fair investigation and ensuring the safety of herself and her children from the police administration. The victim says she has been running around officials for a long time seeking justice. Now, with the FIR filed, she hopes the case will be investigated impartially and, if the allegations are found to be true, legal action will be taken against the accused.
