Prayagraj: Dr. Kudrat Ullah, director of Nature’s Zahida Rafat Hospital on 60 Feet Road in Kareli, stated that with the changing weather, the number of patients suffering from hepatitis, or inflammation of the liver, is increasing. He urged people to exercise special caution regarding hygiene and dietary habits.
Dr. Kudrat Ullah explained that hepatitis A is a viral disease caused by infection with HAV (Hepatitis A virus). While most cases resolve on their own over time, neglect can lead to a serious illness in some patients, potentially resulting in severe liver damage and even liver failure. He added that early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help overcome the condition, although some severe cases may require a liver transplant.
He explained that hepatitis A is primarily spread through the fecal-oral route, i.e., by consuming food or water contaminated with feces and urine. Drinking contaminated water, eating contaminated or exposed food, and eating without thoroughly washing hands with soap after defecation increase the risk of infection.
Dr. Kudrat Ullah advised people to always use clean and safe drinking water. Avoid eating food sold in the open and wash hands thoroughly with soap before eating and after using the toilet. He said that if a person experiences symptoms such as weakness, loss of appetite, vomiting, stomach pain, fever, or yellowing of the eyes and skin, they should not ignore it and should consult a doctor. Timely diagnosis and treatment can prevent the disease from becoming serious.
