Prayagraj: To commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas, the 27th anniversary of India’s victory in the Kargil War, a program on patriotism and bravery was organized at Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University on Monday. University security personnel were also honored on the occasion. On this occasion, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Satyakam, a Tiranga Yatra was taken out from the Ganga Campus of the University. This Yatra passed through Shantipuram and ended at Saraswati Campus with patriotic slogans. In the Tiranga Yatra in the memory of Kargil martyrs, teachers, staff and a large number of students were paying homage to the memory of Kargil martyrs by holding the tricolour in their hands. After the Tiranga Yatra, a lecture was organised in the Tilak Auditorium of the University in the memory of Kargil martyrs. On this occasion, tribute was paid to the martyrs of the Kargil War and their bravery was remembered.
The event’s chief guest and keynote speaker, Colonel Mahim Sharma, Commandant, OD Fort Prayagraj, said that a soldier never hesitates to sacrifice his life for the honor of his country. We are all fortunate to have the Akshayavat tree in Prayagraj. Why is it Akshayavat? Because its roots are embedded in the soil. Similarly, today the spirit of our soldiers to protect the country is completely inexhaustible. Presiding over the function, University Vice Chancellor Professor Satyakam said that the military is an honorable service because of the love soldiers have for Mother India. We must rise above narrow-mindedness. If our army is like the Akshay Vat, then we teachers should instill patriotism in our students. The Vice Chancellor said that today is not only a day of victory but also a day of introspection.
Colonel Vinay Kumar, Registrar of the Open University, the special guest, said that in 1999, our brave soldiers, under Operation Vijay, raised the flag of the tricolor by driving out intruders from the inaccessible peaks of Kargil. This day reminds us of those heroes who fought on the snowy hills and reclaimed every inch of our country’s territory. The Kargil War teaches us how essential sacrifice, courage, and unity are to protecting our nation. Our soldiers never gave up even in the face of difficult circumstances. This is true patriotism.
The event coordinator, Professor S. Kumar, welcomed the guests, faculty, staff, and students on the stage. Organizing Secretary Dr. Rajesh Singh coordinated, Dr. Trivikram Tiwari conducted, and Professor Anandanand Tripathi delivered the vote of thanks.
