Prayagraj: The sporting events for the new academic session 2026–27 at the Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences II began with the inauguration of the Inter-House Football Tournament 2026–27. The tournament was inaugurated on August 20, 2026, at the university’s football ground.

Dr. C.J. Wesley, Chairman, Athletics Committee and Registrar, SHUATS, was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Mr. Ashish Massey, Head, Department of Physical Education and Secretary, Athletics Committee, SHUATS, welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet. On this occasion, Mr. Ashish Massey, Secretary, Athletics Committee, was honored with a bouquet by Mr. Ajay Kumar, Assistant Professor, SHUATS. Chief guest Dr. C.J. Wesley encouraged the players, saying that they should play the game with true sportsmanship, discipline, and passion. He congratulated all the players, officials, and organizing committee for the successful organization of the tournament. The opening match of the tournament was played between Red House and Blue House, in which Red House won 2–0. On this occasion, the University’s Senior Security Officer Mr. Rajiv Singh, Mr. Jacob, Dr. Sunita B. John, Dr. Achint Terence, Mr. Rakesh Sahu, Mr. Tanveer Ahmed, Mr. Naresh Kannaujiya, Mr. Praveen Rai and Mr. Bipin Kumar Singh along with all the staff members of the Physical Education Department were present.

The tournament is being organised under the direction of Mr. Ajay Kumar, Football Game Incharge and Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education, SHUATS.

This tournament is an important initiative towards developing sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, leadership skills and healthy competition among the students.
