Beauty of folk style reflected in presentation full of song, music and humor
Prayagraj: The five-day long Nautanki Festival organised by North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India concluded on Friday with a memorable ending. Nautanki ‘Abu Hasan’ written by Urmil Kumar Thapliyal and directed and conceptualised by Deep Sharma entertained the audience with songs, music and humour.
This play staged in the Kendra Auditorium brought the tale of Arabian Nights to life in a Nautanki style. The story is about a simple, poor, unemployed youth named Abu Hasan who despite financial difficulties keeps indulging in fun and feasting with his friends. His widowed mother, troubled by his habits, tries to reason with him, but he does not come out of his dream world.
The twist in the story comes when the king of the kingdom goes out in disguise to take news of the subjects and meets Abu Hasan. Abu takes him to his house thinking he is a foreigner and takes him home and gives him great hospitality. The king is pleased with his hospitality and asks him about his wish. Unknowingly Abu Hasan expresses his wish to become the king for a day. The king makes a plan to fulfill his wish and Abu Hasan is made to sit in the palace like a king.
In the palace, Abu Hasan meets the king’s adopted daughter Roshan Ara and love blossoms between them. But due to poverty, Abu Hasan refuses to marry. Seeing this, the king rescues him from poverty and gets him married to his daughter.
In this play, such a blend of song, music, dance and comedy was presented that it tickled the audience a lot. The acting and dialogue delivery of the artists on the stage made the atmosphere lively. On this occasion, dignitaries of the city, officers and employees of the centre and a large number of spectators were present. The show was conducted by Abhijeet Mishra.
