Prayagraj: Towards realizing the goals of the New Education Policy 2020 and Digital India, a two-day national workshop on the subject of development of SWAYAM MOOCs was inaugurated on Wednesday under the aegis of the Center for Online Education at Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Prayagraj.

In his presidential address at the inaugural session, University Vice Chancellor Professor Satyakam stated that today is the era of digital education. Every teacher must be proficient in modern technologies such as information and communication technology and artificial intelligence. Otherwise, they will not be able to keep pace with the changing times. Professor Satyakam stated that the sole goal of all open universities is to provide quality education to the last person in society. SWAYAM is a national platform of the Government of India through which this goal can be easily achieved. He stated that this workshop will provide new impetus to the University’s ongoing efforts with SWAYAM and will prove helpful in creating quality online courses in the future. Vice Chancellor Professor Satyakam expressed hope that after this workshop, more of the University’s courses will be available on the SWAYAM platform, benefiting learners not only in the state but across the country. He stated that the University is continuously working towards developing quality digital courses through SWAYAM and SWAYAM Prabha.

The resource person and keynote speaker of the workshop, Prof. Jitendra Pandey, Professor and Director, School of Computer Science and Information Technology, Uttarakhand Open University, Haldwani, provided detailed information to the participants about the concept of SWAYAM and MOOCs, course structure, e-content development, video lecture creation, evaluation system, quality standards and course presentation. He trained the participants through practical activities on various aspects of SWAYAM course proposal preparation, module creation, learning outcomes, evaluation plan and quality assurance. Prof. Pandey said that through MOOCs, any student can now get free education from the best teachers of the country while sitting at home.

Presenting the workshop outline, Professor A.K. Malik, coordinator of the workshop and Director of the Center for Online Education, stated that digital education and online learning play a crucial role in the effective implementation of the National Education Policy 2020. Professor Malik provided detailed information about the workshop’s objectives, technical sessions, and practical training for participants.

Public Relations Officer Dr. Prabhat Chandra Mishra stated that directors of academic disciplines, teachers, officials, researchers, and academics enthusiastically participated in the event. Participants described the workshop as extremely useful, informative, and practical, calling it an important initiative in the field of digital education. Young teachers displayed tremendous enthusiasm for the workshop. Dr. Tuba Fatma conducted the program, and Dr. Jumi Singh delivered the vote of thanks. The workshop will conclude tomorrow.
