St. Joseph’s College celebrates grand opening of SJC MUN
Prayagraj: In an atmosphere imbued with intellectual fervor, discipline, and academic dignity, St. Joseph’s College achieved a significant milestone with the inaugural St. Joseph’s College Model United Nations (SJCMUN). Organized as a special report, the program offered meaningful discussions on a variety of topics, taking significant steps toward introducing young people to diplomacy, serious and reasoned debate, and international parliamentary traditions. The program began with the welcome of the Chief Guest, Justice Seemit Dayal Singh, and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the gathering, guests highlighted the importance of dialogue, consensus, and democratic values. The welcome and lamp lighting ceremony conveyed the purpose of the event and the exchange of ideas. College Captain Anosh K. John then led the gathering in prayer, motivating the delegates to work toward peace and justice. The college choir presented a melodious prayer song, lending a solemn, dignified, and reflective tone to the event.
In keeping with Josephian tradition, Justice Seemit Dayal Singh was formally introduced. He was then presented with a flower plant, symbolizing sustainable development, life, and environmental protection. A specially composed song by the college choir captivated the audience. The presentation beautifully captured the aspirations of youth and the spirit of unity, embodying the core spirit of SJCMUN.
A major highlight of the opening session was the theme unveiling, accompanied by an engaging theme reveal video. This video laid the foundation for the discussions and debates to be held in the various committees during the conference. In his powerful welcome address, the Secretary-General emphasized the need for empathetic dialogue, critical thinking, and firm compromise in the context of modern governance and international diplomacy. This was followed by the screening of opening and committee introduction videos, which provided a detailed overview of the agenda and themes of each council.
Following the program, the Executive Board members were formally introduced and presented with mementos in recognition of their expertise and skillful guidance. A special dance performance also added artistic energy to the event, captivating the audience. At the climax of the ceremony, Justice Seemat Dayal Singh delivered an inspiring message, sharing his experiences and guiding thoughts on jurisprudence, integrity, and international cooperation. Following this, he was presented with a memento on behalf of the organization and declared the first edition of SJCMUN formally open. Before the start of the committee session, the rules of the conference were formally presented to ensure parliamentary discipline, diplomatic etiquette, and a serious and orderly debate process.
