Prayagraj: Artists invited from various African countries under the India-Africa Forum Summit-4 organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, were given a grand welcome with traditional Indian hospitality at the North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Prayagraj on Wednesday.
On this occasion, a special painting exhibition was organized at the Mahatma Gandhi Art Gallery on the Center campus, which was visited with great enthusiasm and interest by African artists. The artists interacted with students from the Department of Visual Arts, Allahabad University, sharing their experiences on art, culture, and creative expression. During the interaction, special discussions focused on Indian folk culture, traditional art styles, the use of natural dyes, and the need to preserve cultural roots. This interaction became a powerful medium for cultural exchange between India and Africa.
During the program, Center Director Sudesh Sharma and Deputy Director Dr. Mukesh Upadhyay honored all the international artists by presenting them robes and plants.
Artists from Africa will create paintings inspired by the cultural heritage, spiritual traditions, and folk life of Prayagraj and Varanasi. An exhibition of these special artworks will be held at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on May 31, 2026.
The prominent artists participating in this cultural tour include Dr. Halla Shafe (Visual Artist) from Egypt, Moussa Sawagogo (Painter, Sketch Artist and Wood Sculptor) from Burkina Faso, Max Lyonga Sako (Painter) from Cameroon and Borsorta Djemira (Painter and Teacher) from Chad.
