Necessary to create environment of open dialogue: Prof. Sushma Yadav
Prayagraj: In a special lecture on “Safe, Healthy, and Inclusive Universities for Women: Challenges and Solutions” held at Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Prof. Sushma Yadav, Chairperson of the UGC Steering Committee and former Vice Chancellor of BPS, Women’s University, Khanpur, Haryana, said that to create a safe, healthy, and inclusive university for women, it is essential to foster an environment of open dialogue. An inclusive system that includes teachers, students, and society.
In order to effectively implement the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for the welfare of students and to create a safe and respectful educational environment, a lecture was organized in the Ghalib Auditorium on Friday, July 17, under the auspices of the University’s Internal Complaints Committee. The program was chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumud Sharma. Dr. Harshal Sathe, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram, was present as the special speaker. Referring to various regulations under the National Education Policy 2020, Prof. Sushma Yadav said that teachers should have a parental relationship with students. Students entering the university for the first time should be talked about on ethics and values.
We need to consider academic excellence as well as human life. Citing quotes from Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Savitribai Phule, Swami Vivekananda, and Rabindranath Tagore regarding the importance of education, she said that education can transform a person’s mindset and environment. A university is not just a research center, but a place where young minds are shaped, where their futures are decided. He explained that for a safe environment, it is essential to understand the potential and aspirations as well as the concerns of students.
In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor Professor Kumud Sharma stated that education is a public service and a means of ensuring equality. It is our collective responsibility to foster a culture of healthy dialogue and ensure a safe university campus. He noted that the National Education Policy aims to foster an inclusive environment. He also emphasized the need to foster an environment of excellence within the university. Vice Chancellor Professor Sharma welcomed Professor Sushma Yadav with a garland and the university’s emblem.
Dr. Harshal Sathe said that problems should be solved from a humanitarian perspective, along with following rules and regulations. He stressed on creating a safe ecosystem for the safety of women. The welcome address of the program was given by Professor Awadhesh Kumar, Dean of Sahitya Vidyapeeth. The program was conducted by Assistant Professor of Education Department, Dr. Seema Bargat, and Professor Preeti Sagar, Dean of Bhasha Vidyapeeth, expressed her gratitude. The program began with the lighting of lamps and singing of the college song and concluded with the national anthem. A large number of teachers, officers, employees, researchers and students were present on this occasion.
